Halloween and the Lost Boy |

For Halloween we thought the safest thing to do, since we weren't familiar with the Albuquerque at all, was to find a church that was having a "fall festival" or "trunk or treat" that we could attend. Those things often have big blow-up slides, lots of candy, and a very welcoming atmosphere. Sure enough, Calvary Chapel provided just what we were looking for, and more. After the festivities we went home for our own Halloween Party. We had spent the day making spooky treats...wizard's hats, dog bones, mini mummies, sloppy joe pumpkins, goulish cupcakes, even a witch's brew. To cap it all off, we planned to watch one of our favorite "spook" movies...The Ghost And Mr. Chicken . Unfortunately, we couldn't find it. Daddy tried to salvage the night by proposing that we watch it on You-Tube, but our internet connection was so slow that it skipped and sputtered and we finally just gave up and went to bed.
On Sunday we returned to Calvary Chapel to listen to guest speaker Greg Laurie, known as the "Lost Boy" . We had never heard of him, or his story, but I think God wanted us to know it. Greg suffered a very difficult, abusive childhood followed by a misguided adolescence. But, as with all of us, God had a plan for his life greater than anything he could imagine. His transformation and continuing service to the Lord are chronicled in his biography, Lost Boy: My Story
, which has recently been made into a Lost Boy The Documentary
. The story is touching because, although it may be more tragic than many of ours, we can all relate to feeling inadequate, to searching for our purpose, to falling short, and, for those of us who finally find Jesus, to knowing that even though we are faulty we are still valuable to our God.
