We finally rode a real rollercoaster (the boys, I
mean). Where? At the only amusement park on our tour...Legoland. Really, with two boys, 7 and 8, how could we not
go to Legoland? It was fantastic. The rides were thrilling but not scary. There was enough variety to entertain all of
us for a full day. And best of all, they
got to leave with Legos! Legos are the
perfect toys for traveling in a motorhome.
They don't take up much room.
They store easily in plastic containers with lids. Those containers can be moved from RV to car
and back without trouble. And, they are
ageless…even Daddy loves them.
Seriously though, we have taken the kids to a lot of history
related museums, monuments and battlefields.
They have never complained - not once. Their
general attitude is, "What are we doing today?"
Very flexible. But sometimes you
have to throw in things just for fun; things that you can't tie to history or
culture or science, no matter how far you stretch.
It keeps everyone happy. Legoland
definitely did the trick.

The largest state park in California is the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. My Aunt Shelly, Uncle Jeff and cousin Greg
took us 4-wheeling there in their jeeps.
The boys were giddy. We bounced
over desert trails, fishtailed up sand dunes and tried geocaching for the first time. The next day, the boys wrote a paragraph
about their experience, as they usually do, and Mason asked
if I would post his on the site. So,
here’s what Mason wrote:
One day I woke up and remembered that today we were going on
a desert tour! When our friends got to
the motorhome with their jeeps, one green and one gray, we were on our way to
the Anza-Borrego desert. On the way we
stopped at the Visitor’s Center and learned about all the different plants and
animals that live there. When we were
done we took the top off of the gray jeep.
Then we saw some metal sculptures.
Then we let some air out of our tires.
Then we got on to a bumpy, rocky and twisted trail. A quarter into the trip we crossed a dried up
river bed. After that we got on some
more rocks. Then we went into a dry
river bed and went along it until it ended.
Then we went in some running creeks.
Then there was this big creek and we had to cross it so we buckled down
and in we went. It was so deep I could
almost touch the water. Then we stopped
and had lunch. Then we saw this huge
boulder hill, so up we went. We hit some
big boulders that nearly tipped us over.
Then a few minutes later we went to a sand dune. We went up it at like 60 miles per hour. It was sandy and hot! I think Anza-Borrego is a fun place.
